blog post week 6 (post 2)

When you're working on a film project, finding the right supplies can be crucial. From costumes and props to set decorations and special effects, having the right materials can make all the difference in bringing your vision to life. In this blog, I will discuss my experience of going to Party City to find supplies for our film project, but not finding anything.

At first, going to Party City seemed like a great idea. We had a scene in our film that required some specific mise en scene and special effects, and we thought that Party City would have exactly what we needed. We were excited to explore the store and find the perfect props and decorations for our project.

However, when we arrived at the store, we quickly realized that things were not going to go as planned. Due to it not being Halloween season, we realized that the store was not currently carrying Halloween costumes or special effect kits such as makeup and fake blood. While there were some general decorations that we could have used, we couldn't find anything specific to our needs.

We asked the employees for help, but they seemed just as unsure as we were about where to find what we were looking for. We spent a considerable amount of time wandering around the store, hoping that something would catch our eye, but nothing did.

In the end, we left Party City empty-handed and disappointed. It was frustrating to have spent so much time and energy searching for supplies but not finding anything. However, we didn't let this setback discourage us. Instead, we regrouped and came up with a new plan for how to find the materials we needed.

Blog post week 6 (post 1)

Filming day

Our group was extremely organized and well-prepared. We had spent the previous week planning and rehearsing our shots, so when it came to the actual filming day, we knew exactly what we needed to do. We had a clear timeline for the day, which helped us stay on track and made sure that we completed all our shots on time.

Our group was very communicative, and we had a clear understanding of each other's roles and responsibilities. We assigned different tasks to different members of the group, and everyone knew what they needed to do. This made the filming process much smoother, as we were all working towards a common goal.

Despite all our planning, things didn't always go according to plan on the day. However, we were able to quickly adapt and make changes on the spot. For example, we had to change our shooting location at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. However, we were able to come up with an alternative location quickly, and we still managed to complete our shots on time.

In conclusion, our group was extremely productive during our filming day. We were well-prepared, communicative, adaptable, and motivated, which helped us achieve our goal efficiently. I believe that these qualities are essential for any successful group project, and I am proud of our group for embodying them.

These are the story boards that we will be using for our project.  The storyboard is an essential visual outline that breaks down the project into smaller, more manageable pieces, helps organize and communicate ideas in a clear and concise way. Here are some of the ways a storyboard planner can help:

Blog post week 5 (post 1)

Horror slasher films are a subgenre of horror movies that feature a masked killer or a supernatural entity who goes on a killing spree. The goal of these films is to create fear and suspense in the audience, making them jump out of their seats and scream. In this blog post, we will discuss the mise en scene that our group will consider during this process to create the best possible film opening.

Use Dark Lighting

Dark lighting is a staple of horror movies, and for a good reason. It creates an atmosphere of fear and mystery, making the audience feel uneasy and on edge. For a slasher film, you should use low-key lighting that casts deep shadows and highlights only specific areas of the scene.

Use Creepy Music and Sound Effects

The music and sound effects in a horror movie can make or break the film. For a slasher film, you should use eerie, ominous music and sound effects that create tension and anticipation. The use of silence can also be effective in creating suspense before a jump scare or a violent act.

Choose a Dark and Foreboding Setting

The setting of a horror movie is crucial in establishing the tone and atmosphere of the film. For a slasher movie, you should choose a dark and foreboding setting, such as an abandoned hospital, an isolated cabin in the woods, or a creepy old mansion. These settings are perfect for creating a sense of isolation and vulnerability in the characters, making them easier targets for the killer.

Use Gore and Violence Sparingly

While gore and violence are staples of slasher films, they should be used sparingly to create a more significant impact on the audience. It's essential to balance the amount of gore with suspense and anticipation, allowing the audience to build up to the violent acts.

Costume Design

The costume and prop design of the killer can also add to the horror of the film. For a slasher film, you should choose a mask or costume that is unsettling or frightening, such as a clown mask or a butcher's apron. The use of weapons like knives, machetes, or chainsaws can also add to the horror and make the audience feel more uneasy.

Blog Post Week 4 (post 3)

 Story

When discussing in class, our group was starting to come up with details about our opening scene.  We have come to the decision we want to make a slaher film but now we had to come up with more specific detail.  We want the victims to look as innocent as possible so we have decided to use a blonde girl as the victim.  We also came to the decision that Dave (our other group member) is going to be acting as the killer. We want the killer to be a gardner, his vehicle is a old dirty mini van so that he can carry all of his tools.  He wears a Gator all the time so that nobody really knows him but no one every questions him anyways as he seems to be a very innocent guy.  His main weapon is a chain saw but also uses all sorts of knives and blades.

Here are some of the props that we will be using.

Blog Post Week 4 (post 2)

Change in the idea of the film

Throughout the week, my group and I had initially come up with an idea to make our film paranormal film that took place in the abandoned hospital in front of Top Golf in Miami Gardens.  Later we found out that the building had just been demolished. People were posting it on their stories and so that is how is found out about the situation.

We then sat all together and thought about new possible ideas for what the movie could potentially be about.  We knew that we wanted to make one in the horror genre but we didn't know which kind of horror specifically.  Then we had a fantastic Idea.  We are going to make a slasher film opening.  This will take place in a house here in Weston, and the slasher will be portrayed as a regular gardener of the house doing lawn work and all sorts of things.  He becomes a bit of a stalker and then kills the family living inside.

Here are some movies of a similar genre that we are looking into.
